[ While much of the initial swarm of weasel Pokémon had already been handled earlier in the month, a few stragglers were recently spotted still trying to make their way into the city. Now that most of the others were occupied with finding newcomers in the tunnels, Laios instead volunteered to be on the patrol team, both to keep watch, and more importantly, keep any intruders at bay.
It's an uneventful start of the evening at first, only for him to spot a group of unfamiliar Pokémon begin to approach. Quickly, he chimes in on the Espathra's pearl, knowing he's also on watch somewhere nearby. ]
Anasui? [ The sound of faint hissing can be heard in the background, though Laios doesn't seem too phased. ] Do you think you can meet me at the edge of town? I'm pretty sure I found them.
[While Anasui would prefer to be stalking down the stragglers in tunnels, he knows it's more efficient for him to be on patrol. He has a knack for hunting down intruders, hence why he's patrolling near the canopy, making use of his natural stealth.
It is a very quiet night but any hope of it staying that way is dashed when he hears the crackle of his pearl. Still, Anasui snaps to business.]
Understood. Send me what you see through the pearl and I'll find you.
[And Anasui will sprint off towards Laios. He'll take full advantage of the image sharing with the Grumperl to join the Boltund within two minutes, unless something else happens.]
Right. Hold on. [ There’s a bit more rustling before his view becomes visible. Laios is just close enough to watch them without being seen as he hides himself low in the bush. Firepaw’s advice for hunting echoes in his head, a reminder for him to keep as still as possible.
He keeps his voice hushed. ] I see two Gumshoos and a Zangoose so far, but they might not be alone. They’re acting bold for such low numbers.
[When Anasui ducks his head and sits down, he can make himself quite small, so he finds a bush to sit behind. He's not in the same bush as Laios so to not give the other man away but he's close enough so they can coordinate attacks.
Still speaking through the pearl, Anasui answers equally as softly.]
They may have reinforcements nearby but those Pokemon aren't known for hunting or fighting in a pack. It's hard to say... But we should assume they're not being arrogant. We take them quickly and quietly if possible.
[Anasui runs through the type matchups in his head and frowns.] Do you have any fighting-type moves? I don't...
[ Laios keeps still, with only his nose twitching in thought. ] It is odd, isn’t it? It’s possible the rain is effecting their behavior, but let’s stay cautious. [ Luckily, it’s only overcast for now, but who knows what longterm exposure could do to a wild Pokémon.
Just like Anasui, however, he frowns too after mentally running through his moves. ] No, I don’t, but my Electric move should hit more than just one of them. If any get paralyzed, that could give us an early edge. [ He won’t make any movements yet, not until hearing Anasui’s thoughts. ]
[Great, another factor making the enemy unpredictable. If Anasui wasn't so concerned with keeping quiet, he'd click his beak in frustration. So... if they didn't know why the enemy were acting strange then their plan needed to be flexible, hard-hitting and quick.]
I can only really target one at a time but my Lumina Crash will lower its special defense. So... here's my thoughts... I run in, hit them with it and then 'Ally Swap' with you in the bushes. That way, you'll be in a better position to let off your moves without hitting me, while dealing more damage to the target I tagged. Then, if they try attack you, I'll swap back, take the hit, and give you a chance to paralyze them again. They don't look the brightest... I imagine if we move quickly and disorientate them that way, we'll get the upper hand despite their numbers.
[He glances back at Laios. Thoughts? He'll follow Laios' lead but he's also ready to just execute his plan if Laios doesn't have anything better in mind.]
[ His tail whips silently back and forth as he listens to Anasui's plan. It's efficient, as to be expected, and he has no qualms with executing it besides one detail. ]
On the second swap—could you wait until I Bite into one? I can take a few hits, but if I can grab one to take back into the bushes... separating them would give us another advantage. [ Granted, this addendum would be heavily dependent on if Ally Swap would even work on something he'd be holding down. ] Even if it doesn't work, I can still wear them out more before you go back in.
[ He loosens his stance, keeping himself limber in preparation for a fight. ] Ready when you are, Anasui.
Hmmm... I don't know if Ally Swap will work like that but worth a shot. It'll be interesting to test nonetheless.
[Anasui nods. He takes a deep breath, steadies himself and then sprints forward. The unsuspecting two Gumshoos and Zangoose don't even have time to yell before Anasui lands right in front of the closest Gumshoos. With a yell, Anasui lets loose a peculiar pink-blue light from his body right into the Gumshoos. The Gumshoos yells and staggers back and Anasui turns his head towards the bush he knows Laios is at.
The enemies have a chance to get a hit on Anasui before he makes another move but, regardless if they hit or not, Anasui will stick to the plan and 'Ally Swap' with Laios. Go dog boy go!]
[ Laios nods at Anasui's words, even if it may not be visible. Silently, he disconnects their psychic link. His ears are enough to listen to other's movements as he prepares for the impending Ally Swap. Despite the fight that's about to ensue, the building adrenaline gets a smile out of him, ready for what's next.
Once the scuffle starts, Laios perks up from the bush, locking eyes with the Espathra before offering another nod. Just like that, he feels the world around him shift before he can even blink. For a second, he takes a moment to catch up with himself, the suddenness of it all at least keeping their foes off-guard long enough for him to build up the energy to unleash a Discharge.
Sparks fly all around, hitting the Zangoose at lease with enough power to paralyze it. One Gumshoos stumbles back, but the other manages to evade it entirely before lunging right at the Boltund. Quickly, he lets out a Roar to push it away, before rushing at it to pin it down for a Bite.
Before his teeth sink in, he calls back: ] Anasui, now!
[Anasui is used to the swaps, so he recovers quickly from the sudden change in position. He has to admit, Laios was as strong as he was adaptable - That Discharge did some significant damage. And he handles the three-on-one like a champion. Anasui watches the Boltund move and watches him pin the opponent down. As planned, he uses Ally Swap again, switching their positions.
Unfortunately, Ally Swap doesn't work on opponents, so only Laios is sent back to the bush in Anasui's place. However, Anasui appears right on top of the Gumshoos, which makes the poor Pokemon cry out in pain as instantly over a hundred extra pounds is pressed on top of it. Anasui instantly turns and Pecks at the nearby, paralyzed Zangoose, making the slowed Pokemon hiss in frustration.
However, the Gumshoos that was roared back quickly surges back to Anasui. It's clear they have no idea what's going on but they're getting attacked! It uses Bite onto Anasui's flank, making the man hiss loudly in pain.]
Get the hell off! [Anasui groans. That hit him harder than he thought it would. The Espathra tries to shake it off to no avail. He snarls.] Laios! Get ready to switch again! [If Laios confirms, he'll swap places with the other man. However, now wouldn't be a bad time for both of you to frontline.]
[ Prepared for the switch, he finds it less disorienting the second time, though he can't help but let out a small huff of disappointment when his target remains where it was. At the very least, it puts Anasui in the perfect position to keep it pinned down.
Quietly, under his breath, he mutters: ] ... Good to know. [ But he quickly snaps out of his thoughts when he hears the Esparthra's yell out. Laios immediately starts to move forward, until Anasui offers another Ally Swap. ] I'm ready!
[ He stances up, already baring his teeth to immediately go at the attack Gumshoos. ] But rush back in after! We need to take them on together now.
Understood! [Anasui locks eyes with Laios again and swaps their positions. The Gumshoos that was being crushed almost whimpers in relief as Laios reappears in that spot. The one that just bit Anasui snarls at Laios, trying to dodge the Boltund's attack.
Anasui immediately bounds out of the bush at full force. He goes straight to the Pokemon that Laios is attacking. He immediately uses Aerial Ace and kicks the creature hard.
Meanwhile, the Zangoose finally manages a move through its paralysis and tries to slash at the duo.]
[ On the switch, Laios immediately lunges again, roughly pushing off one Gumshoos to go right after the other instead. Prepared this time, however, it jumps away, kicking up a Sand Attack right at him to keep its distance. It's enough to get Laios to hesitate, but even after he shakes his head to clear his vision, the Boltund doesn't make another attempt. The distraction held long enough for the Espathra to come barreling in, kicking the Pokémon at full force. It snarls, hitting the ground with a deep thud. ]
—now you.
[ He turns back to the Gumshoos on the ground, pouncing to keep it pinned before it can manage to get its bearings. Baring his teeth, he's ready to clamp down, this time on the Pokémon's neck, only to lift his head at the sound of the approaching Zangoose. His eyes widen, unable to Roar in time before it Slashes hard enough to knock him off the Gumshoos. With an involuntary whimper, he pushes himself to stand and yell out a warning: ] Anasui, look out!
[ Not bothering with helping it's friend any longer, the Zangoose is fixated on Slashing at Anasui instead. ]
[Once the Gumshoos is down, Anasui moves to kick it again to make sure it's properly down. The creature bares its teeth and tries to bite Anasui's foot but Anasui brutally stamps down on its head with another Aerial Ace.
The bird whips his head around, hearing Laios' whimper of pain, but before he can say anything, the Zangoose is upon him. Anasui could dodge but instead he grits his teeth and takes the hit. The Slash fucking hurts but it's no critical hit, and Anasui is left standing. Anasui glares daggers at the Zangoose that's now positioned right in front of him, unable to get away thanks to the paralysis.]
Diver Down!
[He doesn't need to shout that but it's instinct and it feels right. The gaps between his feathers glow and shoot off another Lumina Crash. The Zangoose hisses loudly as it's blasted with the burst of psychic energy, sending it flying back into the other Gumshoos who's trying to pick itself off the ground.]
They're weakened! Finish them off! Don't worry about me! [One foe weak, two with lowered special defenses! Now is a good of a time as any to Discharge!]
[ He winces in solidarity as Anasui takes a Slash just the same, frustrated he couldn't have done more to stop it. With a growl, he holds his ground in case the Zangoose tries to take another go at him. Fortunately, the Paralysis seems to stick this time around, leaving it wide open for an attack. Anasui's callout stops Laios from lunging forward again, his eyes widening instead as the other's feathers start to glow. It's quite the sight up close — the Boltund can't help but marvel as the burst of energy takes the wild Pokémon down.
He doesn't hesitate when Anasui suggests to use another Discharge. They both know the risk, but are equally prepared all the same. Rushing in, he takes in another deep breath, charging up his energy as a flurry of sparks seem to follow his trail. Laios leaps into the center of them all, unleashing a widespread surge of electricity, the wild Pokémon all crying out as if in unison.
But he shifts his focus to his partner almost immediately, brows furrowing in concern. Paralyzing the other would be the worst outcome, after all. ] Anasui... are you okay?
[Even though he wants to yell like the others (his body takes physical and special moves as well as their opponents), Anasui can take hits like it's no one's business so he stands his ground. He ruffles his feathers, as if trying to shake off the pain and nods.]
Ugh... Your attacks aren't to be taken lightly. But I'm fine enough. Let's just finish this already.
[He turns his attention to the trio and drops his voice to something low, deep and surprisingly charming.]
You three are hardly worth our time. But if you dare come close to this town again, we'll tear you to shreds. Or perhaps... Laios will finish you off completely.
[There's no way to dodge Anasui's Disarming Voice and pink soundwaves surrounded by hearts and musical notes fly from him to the opponents. One of the Gumshoos faints while the others barely look conscious. Looks like Anasui is leaving the decision to finish off these Pokemon or let them go to Laios.]
[ If his attacks shouldn't be taken lightly, then Anasui's pain tolerance is far better than most. Relief washes over him, hearing the other's assurance. With anyone else, Laios might think they're trying to push themselves in spite of how they're feeling, but that worry doesn't even cross his mind. Anasui knows what he can handle.
He nods, affirmative, still standing his ground should the other Pokémon try their luck again. Just as well, the Espathra wastes no time in unleashing his own attack back, leaving their opponents on their last legs. Anyone else may leave them as-is to go lick their wounds for another day, but Laios allows his instinct kick in, just one last time. Letting Pokémon this feral back into the wild would be too dangerous, especially when they're already this willing to venture into city territory.
He bounds past the one already fainted to jump on the other, growling all the while. Even with little strength left, the Gumshoos snarls as it's pinned down, using whatever energy it can muster to throw Laios off. But it's not enough. With a quick motion, he rips at its neck with a forceful Bite, until, finally, it stops moving under him altogether. He spits some blood to the side before glancing at Anasui, and then the fainted Pokémon on the ground. ]
It's better we make sure they can't come back. They've done enough damage to the city as it is.
[His pain tolerance probably is better, thanks to his experiences in his world and his natural advantage of being a fully evolved Pokemon.
The Espathra watches Laios bolt towards their remaining enemy to finish it off. Based on a first impression, Laios doesn't seem like the type to be so brutal but Anasui respects the fact that he is. He is someone who can do what must be done.
With the other Pokemon's words, Anasui moves quietly towards the remaining Pokemon. With brutality unexpected of an Espathra's appearance, Anasui takes his long talons and sticks it right into the Zangoose's neck, digging into the flesh like a shiv. He twists the talon around and then pulls, ripping the other Pokemon's throat open in a grotesquely elegant way. There's no sadism or anger in his blank eyes. Anasui is also someone who is willing to do what must be done.
Then, without so much as a word, Anasui strolls over to the other fainted Gumshoos so he can do the same thing.]
[ From the outside looking in, the juxtaposition between their brightly colored appearances and willingness to commit a brutal final blow must be unsettling. To the Boltund, however, it's a necessity he's more than comfortable with. If his time in the dungeon taught him anything, it's that hesitation leads to more lives lost than not.
He watches as Anasui rips into Zangoose, eyes widening not so much in apprehension, but utter fascination. There's a beauty to it, the seamless motion of his talon, the raw power behind its grip and pull. How could he not admire him from afar, all while wondering what it must feel like, to be something even further removed from a human. It must be exhilarating, but before he gets too deep in his own head, his nose twitches instinctively as the almost overwhelming smell of blood grounds him again.
Moving closer to the other Gumshoos as well, Laios tilts his head down at the fainted Pokémon before Anasui can finish it off all the same. ]
That should take care of them. Hopefully no more try sneaking past us. [ His ears flick as he looks behind himself. ] Should we try moving the bodies?
[Anasui is oblivious to the Boltund's look and thoughts. He's focused until the viscera of the Gumshoos soak his talons, gore clogging up under their nails. He pulls his talons back and stares at the creature spasm and die. Then he looks over to Laios.]
Hopefully not... [He mutters, doing the same and glancing around. Thankfully, all seems calm.]
We better. People get... anxious when they see corpses. We should bury these or dispose of them.
... Hm. [ He sounds a bit distracted, staring down at the Pokémon now laying lifeless before them. ] A bit deeper into the forest, far enough away from the Canopy. The smell might attract scavengers after a while.
[ He places his paw on the corpse, head tilting curiously. ] ... Too bad. Their pelts would be useful, if most of us didn't have fur already. But I'll grab the other Gumshoos, unless you want to get the Zangoose together first? It's pretty big.
[Anasui rolls his eyes. Even if he wasn't warm with his thick layer of feathers, he wouldn't be caught dead in those pelts. They weren't exactly easy on the eyes.]
I don't care. We can do the Gumshoos first. But when we get back to the Zangoose, see if you can pull the Zangoose on my back and slump it over. I should be able to carry it by myself if you do.
O-oh. [ That pierces through him like an arrow. Please, Anasui. Function over form.
Anyway, the bodies. He goes to hover over the one furthest away, nudging it first with one of his paws before looking deeper into the forest. ] Let’s take them a few paces that way, then? We can dig a hole for all three, while we’re at it. I don’t think it should take too long.
[ With that, he lifts up the Gumshoos by the neck to start dragging it along. ]
[Tell that to his mini-skirt and thigh-high boots. Function will follow form if form slays enough.
Anyways, yes, the bodies. Anasui nods and picks up the other Gumshoos with his mouth, not unlike how a cat would carry her young. It's a little heavy but Anasui manages to carry it without too much trouble. He follows Laios, neutral as ever to their work.
He'll follow Laios to wherever the other man deems is a good enough place to start digging. Once there, Anasui will start using his talons like a shovel and start slowly clawing at the dirt.]
[ Anasui would be disgusted by a modern-day Laios. Nothing but red t-shirts and beige khakis for this man.
With the Espathra following his lead, and both Gumshoos now in tow, he heads beyond the outer border of the Canopy, deeper into the forest until the foliage starts to grow thick. His nose twitches, the scent of familiar turf now mostly overtaken by the wilds. Here would be as good a spot as any.
As they dig, Laios remains alert, head lifting every so often to scan their surroundings for any more wild Pokemon out there. The recent rains may have put most in hiding, but one can never be too sure. When the first part of the job is complete and they start to head back for the last, Laios glances up at Anasui to speak, quietly. ]
Most wouldn’t be too comfortable [ or big enough ] to do this. It’s good we got paired together.
[Anasui is incredibly superficial. He would have hated Laios (at least initially) if he met him in a human form.
But he didn't. He's met him in unusual circumstances where Laios has proven himself to Anasui - twice even! So instead of rolling his eyes and spitting something irate to Laios, the psychic Pokemon just... nods approvingly.]
... Mmm... Not everyone is suited for this sort of thing. It's good there's someone else who can do what's needed around here. I know who to ask next time something like this happens.
That's true. I suppose I can't really blame them, though. Even just fighting can be hard to get used to.
[ He matches that nod of approval with the smallest of tail wags. Disassembling aside, he honestly doesn't see why people might feel so apprehensive around Anasui. He just takes his work seriously! Nothing wrong with that! In a way, he's just appreciative that there's someone around here with the same line of thinking. Doing what's needed — Laios couldn't agree more. ]
I'll help get that Zangoose ready. Hopefully it's not too much of a hassle for you to carry.
They'll learn. And we'll cover them until they do.
[Anasui's glad that some people can be delusional sensible enough to see the bigger picture. Again, it's good to have reliable people around. If he didn't before, Anasui fully trusts Laios now.]
Should be fine. Let's go get it already. [Anasui says, with a bit of a smirk as they head back.]
[When Anasui arrives at the Questboard, their already agreed upon meeting spot, he'll find that Lusamine has just arrived herself, seated primly off to one side of the town center and exchanging pleasantries with the shrimp-like Clawitzer. When she spots Anasui, she stands up on her hind legs, grinning broadly.]
Ah, Mr. Anasui! Good morning. [She gestures to the Pokémon beside her with a paw.] This is our client for the day, Ms. Clawitzer.
[Clawitzer greets him with a brief, polite bow of her head. Despite her intimidating appearance, she seems rather soft-spoken.]
We'll be escorting her to the coastline. I trust all your preparations are already in order?
[Anasui had been under the impression that Lusamine didn't like him, which was why he was so surprised to get an invite from Lusamine to do this mission together. However, even if he did care how people felt towards him, and Anasui didn't mind who he did a quest with, so he arrived promptly at the meeting spot. Upon seeing the two women, Anasui bows his head politely towards them.
Morning... [And then Anasui nods at the directed question.] They are. I brought extra provisions in case anyone gets hurt. Let's try not use them though.
[Anasui then stares blankly at Clawitzer. Ordinarily, he would offer to take the duo on his back since it would be more efficient, but he can see how big her claw is. Geeze, that claw looks heavy... That easily looked a 100 pounds...]
Wonderful. [Seeming perfectly confident and comfortable, she turns her grin onto Clawitzer.] Should anything happen, Ms. Clawitzer, please leave it to us.
[They make their way to the coastline then, Clawitzer ushering them gently along, and considering how peaceful and quiet the coast is in comparison to last month, it's hard to imagine that anything dangerous could happen. When Clawitzer asks them both to keep an eye out for Flying-type Pokémon, Lusamine notices that there are undoubtedly more birds present than there were before. Wingull and Pelipper roost on the docks alongside a few Cramorant while the occasional Wattrel passes overhead. At one point, a small flock of Swablu, led by a single, great Altaria, also drift serenely by, apparently unaware (or at least unaffected by) the grisliness of June.
Nevertheless, living proof of what transpired still lingers in the ocean waters: Dondozo and the hidden Tatsugiri, breaching briefly to survey the area before disappearing underwater once more.
To Anasui, Lusamine remarks,] I must admit... It is a bit strange to see those two in charge of protecting the bay, isn't it? Of all Pokémon...
[But of course everything is strange in Bottlecap Bay to her. Predation is natural, yet these Pokémon live much more like humans, making cases like Dondozo's a ghoulish outlier.]
[It's nice to be taking the backseat for once. Anasui is used to letting someone else be the face of their party (to the point where he'd let Emporio do the talking than do it himself) so he naturally follows in step to Lusamine and the Clawitzer. Despite the peacefulness of the beach, Anasui is alert, head practically on a swivel as the stroll along the sand. Every Pokemon that they pass gets a second look from Anasui, as if he's very aware that anyone could attack. The ones who get the longest glare though is the duo that Lusamine points out. Anasui stares, even as the two go back underwater.]
... They're strong and tactical fighters with an extensive knowledge of the ocean. It makes sense to recruit them. [Despite his words, it's impossible to mask the underlying disdain for the duo from Anasui's voice. He had accepted his team's decision to recruit the two but still... they had been specifically been targeting Paldean-based birds like himself...]
...At least those two weren't in control of their actions at the time. I can't say the same for the other two bastards that we ended up bringing to the bay...

[ Not bothering with helping it's friend any longer, the Zangoose is fixated on Slashing at Anasui instead. ]

Date: 2025-07-08 09:09 am (UTC)The bird whips his head around, hearing Laios' whimper of pain, but before he can say anything, the Zangoose is upon him.
Now is a good of a time as any to Discharge!]
no subject
Date: 2025-07-12 08:04 pm (UTC)He doesn't hesitate when Anasui suggests to use another Discharge.
I rolled a d100 and got 58. regardless if I took the top or bottom 30, Anasui wouldn't be paralyzed!
Date: 2025-07-14 06:05 am (UTC)Ugh...
Looks like Anasui is leaving the decision to finish off these Pokemon or let them go to Laios.]
somebody call an ambulance.....BUT NOT FOR ANASUI (cw gore/death)
Date: 2025-07-24 06:06 am (UTC)He nods, affirmative, still standing his ground should the other Pokémon try their luck again.
Lets go!!! CW: (same as above)
Date: 2025-07-25 02:44 am (UTC)The Espathra watches Laios bolt towards their remaining enemy to finish it off.
Then, without so much as a word, Anasui strolls over to the other fainted Gumshoos so he can do the same thing.]
cw: continued
Date: 2025-08-03 06:30 am (UTC)He watches as Anasui rips into Zangoose, eyes widening not so much in apprehension, but utter fascination.
] Should we try moving the bodies?
no subject
Date: 2025-08-04 03:03 pm (UTC)Hopefully not... [He mutters, doing the same and glancing around. Thankfully, all seems calm.]
We better. People get... anxious when they see corpses. We should bury these or dispose of them.
...Any suggestions of where to put them?
no subject
Date: 2025-08-09 07:07 am (UTC)[ He places his paw on the corpse, head tilting curiously. ] ... Too bad. Their pelts would be useful, if most of us didn't have fur already. But I'll grab the other Gumshoos, unless you want to get the Zangoose together first? It's pretty big.
no subject
Date: 2025-08-12 05:14 am (UTC)I don't care. We can do the Gumshoos first. But when we get back to the Zangoose, see if you can pull the Zangoose on my back and slump it over. I should be able to carry it by myself if you do.

Date: 2025-08-15 03:05 am (UTC)Anyway, the bodies.
no subject
Date: 2025-08-15 07:33 am (UTC)Anyways, yes, the bodies.

Date: 2025-08-16 03:40 pm (UTC)With the Espathra following his lead, and both Gumshoos now in tow, he heads beyond the outer border of the Canopy, deeper into the forest until the foliage starts to grow thick.

Date: 2025-08-18 10:29 am (UTC)But he didn't.
I know who to ask next time something like this happens.
good to wrap here if you are!! these weirdos... :'))
Date: 2025-08-21 04:20 am (UTC)[ He matches that nod of approval with the smallest of tail wags.
Happy to wrap! They are the weirdest (affectionate)
Date: 2025-08-22 04:28 am (UTC)[Anasui's glad that some people can be
delusionalsensible enough to see the bigger picture. Again, it's good to have reliable people around. If he didn't before, Anasui fully trusts Laios now.]Should be fine. Let's go get it already. [Anasui says, with a bit of a smirk as they head back.]
action
Date: 2025-07-20 01:19 am (UTC)Ah, Mr.
I trust all your preparations are already in order?
no subject
Date: 2025-07-21 08:05 am (UTC)Morning...
That easily looked a 100 pounds...]
... Lead the way. I'll watch your backs.

Date: 2025-07-26 07:42 pm (UTC)[They make their way to the coastline then, Clawitzer ushering them gently along, and considering how peaceful and quiet the coast is in comparison to last month, it's hard to imagine that anything dangerous could happen.

Date: 2025-07-29 02:32 pm (UTC)...
